JAN'S SPICY BBQ SAUCE

I love this spicy BBQ sauce. It has a slight burn on the lips! To adjust the heat, add more or less cayenne.

3/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 teaspoons minced garlic
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
salt
pepper
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup water
1 dash Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, sauté the onion and garlic in vegetable oil until soft.
  • Add salt and pepper.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
  • Lower the heat and simmer 10 mins, stirring occasionally.

2 cups ketchup
6 tablespoons brown sugar
4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
onion powder

Steps:

  • Mix in pan on stove top and bring slowly to a boil.
  • If you like onions, you can chop some fine and sautee the, adding them instead of the onion powder.
  • Spread on top of the chicken while on the grill when the chicken is completely cooked.
  • Leave it on the grill for another 10 minutes.
  • Eat it up.

This is a recipe made by a very special friend of ours. Although my version never seems to be quite the same (or quite as good), it's still my favorite quick meat sauce. Exceptional with pasta. Leftovers make a great "Italian" sloppy joe on garlic bread. I make two batches and freeze the sauce for a busy night.

1 medium onion, chopped
2 tablespoons garlic, chopped (jarred or fresh)
3 Italian sausages, casing removed and crumbled
1 lb ground beef
2 (24 ounce) jars prego chunky garden combination pasta sauce
1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes (optional)
1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
flour (optional)

Steps:

  • Saute the onion until tender, add the garlic and cook for a couple minutes in a large pot. Remove and set aside.
  • Brown the sausage and ground beef until fully cooked. Drain and return the meats and onion/garlic mixture back in the pot.
  • Add the sauce and cheese and simmer for 30-45 minutes.
  • If a thicker sauce is desired, mix a little flour w/ water and add to sauce, simmer another five minutes.
