NOT A SECRET ANYMORE...JAPANESE STEAKHOUSE WHITE SAUCE

Not a Secret Anymore...japanese Steakhouse White Sauce image

I have searched for this recipe for a very long time. It IS the sauce you get at places like Mon cafe and Jimmy's Hibachi!! The ingredients surprised me but it is very easy and the key is to let the sauce refrigerate overnight or at least make it early in the morning to have with dinner. My husband and I use it to dip everything from crackers, chicken nuggets or even on rice like they serve it in the restaurants. The recipe is easily doubled or (the way I make it) tripled!! ENJOY!!! Time 10m

Yield 2-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/4 cups Hellmanns Mayonnaise
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1 dash cayenne (I use Franks)

Steps:

  • Using a fork or a whisk, blend all ingredients together thoroughly until well mixed and the sauce is smooth. Refrigerate overnight to allow flavors to blend. Bring to room temperature before serving.
  • The sauce will NOT taste right if you don't let it sit overnight. And please don't try to substitute ketchup for the tomato paste! The water is needed to bring this to the right consistency.

I don't know how long this keeps in the refrigerator; I've kept it 7-10 days, but I always wind up eating it all before 10 days so after that - anyone's guess. * Hellmann's is called "Best Foods" west of the Rockie Mountains. Use other mayos at your peril - many cheap brands make the sauce taste too much like mayo.

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The fresher your ingredients, the better your sauce will taste. Look for fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices.
  • Don't overcook the vegetables: The vegetables in your sauce should be crisp-tender, not mushy. Cook them just until they are tender-crisp.
  • Use a good quality white wine: The white wine in your sauce should be a dry white wine that you would enjoy drinking. Avoid using a cheap or sweet white wine.
  • Let the sauce simmer: Simmering the sauce will help to develop its flavor. Let it simmer for at least 15 minutes, or longer if you have time.
  • Season to taste: Taste your sauce before serving and adjust the seasonings as needed. You may want to add more salt, pepper, or lemon juice.
