A Southeast Asian chopped salad bursting with exotic flavors. Sweet yet tart. My boyfriend was surprised when I duplicated this salad after we raved about it at a popular restaurant in San Francisco. Enjoy.

JICAMA - APPLE SALAD
This recipe has such a nice crisp texture. Not overly sweet, would make a nice change of pace for coleslaw. I came up with this just experimenting. I think chopped walnuts would also be good in this.

Steps:
- Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Season the steak with the salt and pepper and grill until medium-rare, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Let the meat rest for 5 minutes, then cut across the grain into 1/4-inch-thick slices.
- In a small bowl, combine the lime juice, vinegar, and sugar and whisk until the sugar is partially dissolved. Using the shredder attachment of a food processor, shred the jícama and apples; transfer to a bowl. Add the cilantro, lime zest, jalapeño, and dressing, and toss to combine.
- To serve, mound 1 1/2 cups of the salad into each serving bowl and top with about 7 slices of beef. Garnish each bowl with additional cilantro leaves and about 2 teaspoons of toasted peanuts. Serve immediately.
Tips:
- Choose the right jicama: Look for jicamas that are firm and have a smooth, unblemished skin. Avoid jicamas that are soft or have bruises or cuts.
- Peel the jicama properly: Use a sharp knife to carefully peel the jicama. Be sure to remove all of the brown skin, as it can be tough and bitter.
- Cut the jicama into uniform pieces: This will help ensure that the jicama cooks evenly.
- Use a variety of apples: Different types of apples will give your salad different flavors and textures. For a sweet and crunchy salad, use Granny Smith apples. For a milder flavor, use Honeycrisp or Gala apples.
- Add some nuts or seeds: Nuts and seeds will add a nice crunch and flavor to your salad. Try adding walnuts, almonds, pecans, or sunflower seeds.
- Use a light dressing: A light dressing will help to enhance the flavors of the jicama and apples without overpowering them. Try a simple vinaigrette or a citrus-based dressing.
- Serve the salad immediately: Jicama and apples can brown quickly, so it's best to serve the salad immediately after it's made.
Conclusion:
Jicama apple salad is a refreshing and healthy salad that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With its sweet and crunchy flavors, this salad is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a light and healthy salad, give jicama apple salad a try. You won't be disappointed!
