Tips:
- Use less expensive cuts of beef. This recipe is perfect for using chuck roast, round steak, or flank steak. These cuts are tough, but they become tender when cooked slowly in a liquid.
- Brown the beef before stewing it. This will help to develop flavor and color.
- Use a variety of vegetables. This will add flavor and texture to the stew. Some good options include carrots, potatoes, onions, celery, and peas.
- Season the stew well. Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic, and herbs. You can also add a bay leaf or two for extra flavor.
- Cook the stew until the beef is tender. This will usually take at least 1 hour, but it may take longer depending on the cut of beef you are using.
- Serve the stew with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
