Kalua pig is a traditional Hawaiian dish made from a whole pig cooked in an underground oven called an imu. The meat is marinated in a flavorful mixture of salt, water, and spices, and then wrapped in banana leaves and burlap. The long, slow cooking process results in a succulent and tender pork that falls off the bone. While it is traditional to cook kalua pig in an imu, it is also possible to make it in a crock pot slow cooker. This method is much easier and more convenient, and it still produces delicious and authentic kalua pig.
