KITTENCAL'S CHOCOLATE FROSTING/ICING

Kittencal's Chocolate Frosting/Icing image

A wonderful frosting I have used for years made in very little time with perfect results and 100% better than any canned, this frosting is so good you will find yourself eating a fair amount of it before even using it to frost with! --- choose the amount of cocoa powder you desire for either a light, medium or dark frosting, and make certain to sift the cocoa powder and the confectioners sugar before using for the recipe--- this frosting *freezes* very well so double the recipe and freeze one batch for next time --- *NOTE* for an ultra creamy fluffy milk chocolate frosting add in 1 to 1-1/2 cups thawed Cool Whip topping at the end of mixing the frosting and beat on low speed until blended ------- also see my recipe#80118 ---- recipe#282040 --- recipe#90142

Time 10m

Yield 4 cups (approx)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 cup crisco white shortening, room temperature (white)
1/2 cup butter, softened or 1/2 cup margarine
4 -6 tablespoons half-and-half cream or 4 -6 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon salt (heaping)
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 teaspoons vanilla or 1 teaspoon almond extract
5 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted (or as needed)
2 -4 drops food coloring (OPTIONAL ( OR for flavor and color, use 1-2 envelopes 3-grams each, Duncan Hines Frosting Creations )

Steps:

  • In a large bowl using an electric mixer at medium speed beat together the shortening and margarine or butter with cream, salt almond extract and vanilla until smooth (about 3 minutes).
  • Add in sifted confectioners sugar starting with 4-1/2 cups; beat very well until smooth and fluffy, adding more confectioners sugar or cream or milk until you achieve desired consistency.
  • Add in the food coloring or Flavor Creation powder (if using) until the desired shade is achieved.

Tips:

  • Soften your butter to room temperature before creaming it with the sugar. This will help to create a smooth and creamy frosting.
  • Use a combination of powdered sugar and cocoa powder for the perfect chocolate flavor. You can adjust the ratio of powdered sugar to cocoa powder to achieve your desired sweetness and chocolate intensity.
  • Add a splash of milk or cream to the frosting to thin it out if necessary. This will also help to make it more spreadable.
  • For a richer frosting, use melted chocolate instead of cocoa powder. Just be sure to let the chocolate cool slightly before adding it to the butter and sugar mixture.
  • To make a chocolate ganache frosting, simply heat equal parts chocolate and cream until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Then, let the ganache cool slightly before whipping it until stiff peaks form.
  • Store your chocolate frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze the frosting for up to 3 months.

With so many delicious chocolate frosting recipes to choose from, you're sure to find one that you love.
