SPICY KOREAN BEEF (USING GROUND BEEF) RECIPE - (4.5/5)

Spicy Korean Beef (using ground beef) Recipe - (4.5/5) image

Provided by msippigrl

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 pound lean ground beef (I used 93/7)
1 tablespoon sesame oil
2 medium cloves garlic, minced (about 2 tsp)
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
1/2 teaspoon crushed red peppers, or to taste
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
5-6 chopped green onions for garnish
Cooked white, or fried rice for serving

Steps:

  • In a small mixing bowl, stir together the brown sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, crushed peppers, and black pepper. Set aside. Heat a large skillet over medium heat; add sesame oil and swirl around to coat. Add the ground beef and stir and cook just until no longer pink, then add the garlic and cook until meat is done. Drain off excess fat. Reduce heat to medium-low and add the reserved soy sauce mixture, stirring to coat the meat. Simmer and stir for a few minutes to blend the flavors and slightly thicken the sauce. Serve over hot rice and garnish top with green onions. NOTE: Instead of chopping the ground beef up as it cooked, I roughly shaped the raw beef into a log then wrapped in foil and partially froze it for a couple of hours, then sliced it off in irregular pieces before cooking.

KOREAN BEEF (GROUND BEEF)

Korean Beef (Ground Beef) image

Inspired and altered from Taste of Home recipe, this recipe is easy to do and has great flavor! An absolute favorite for a weeknight dinner. I tried the Taste of Home recipe and felt that we needed more sauce to flavor the rice so I just halved the beef and added some sauteed vegetables for a more colorful dish. (For serving more people, just add an extra 1/2 lb of beef, repeat the sauce instructions and add another cup of rice!) https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/korean-beef-and-rice/

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ground beef: Opt for lean ground beef with a fat content of around 85% to 90%. This will ensure that the meatballs are juicy and flavorful.
  • Season the ground beef thoroughly: Use a combination of soy sauce, garlic, ginger, green onions, and sesame oil to flavor the ground beef. This will give the meatballs a delicious umami flavor.
  • Don't overmix the ground beef: Overmixing the ground beef will make the meatballs tough. Mix the ingredients together just until they are combined.
