LAVENDER SCENTED AND INFUSED VODKA

Lavender Scented and Infused Vodka image

An easy and stunning flavoured vodka to make at home. I always try to make a least one bottle when I harvest my fresh lavender, as it works so much better with fresh lavender rather than dried lavender. I sometimes add a couple of strips of orange peel for a more subtle and complex flavour. This lavender scented vodka is excellent in Martinis! Make sure your lavender is free of insects and pesticides, just give the stems a gentle shake outside before using. I have also used this lavender vodka in poached fruit, as well as a splashing some of over poached salmon - absolutley divine!

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Lavender: Use culinary or English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) for its mild, sweet flavor.
  • Fresh or Dried Lavender: Both fresh and dried lavender can be used. Fresh lavender imparts a more vibrant flavor, while dried lavender has a more concentrated flavor.
  • Preserve the Lavender's Flavor: To preserve the lavender's delicate flavor, avoid boiling it. Instead, infuse it in vodka at room temperature for a minimum of 24 hours.
  • Experiment with Different Vodka Brands: The quality of vodka used will impact the final flavor of the infused vodka. Experiment with different brands to find one that complements the lavender's flavor profile.
  • Add Additional Ingredients: Feel free to add other ingredients to enhance the flavor of the infused vodka, such as honey, citrus zest, or herbs like rosemary or thyme.
  • Patience is Key: The longer you infuse the vodka, the more pronounced the lavender flavor will be. Allow it to infuse for at least 24 hours, but for a more intense flavor, let it infuse for up to a week.
