Tips:

  • Choose the right chicken: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs work best for this recipe. If you use chicken breasts, slice them into thin strips before cooking.
  • Marinate the chicken: Marinating the chicken in a mixture of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and ginger helps to tenderize the meat and infuse it with flavor.
  • Use a cornstarch slurry: A cornstarch slurry helps to thicken the sauce and give it a glossy finish. To make a cornstarch slurry, mix together equal parts cornstarch and water until a smooth paste forms.
  • Cook the chicken in batches: Do not overcrowd the pan when cooking the chicken. Cook the chicken in batches so that it gets evenly browned and cooked through.
  • Add the sauce at the end: Add the sauce to the pan with the chicken and vegetables and heat until bubbly. Do not boil the sauce, as this will make it toughen the chicken.

Conclusion:

Sweet and sour chicken is a classic Chinese takeout dish that is easy to make at home. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious and flavorful dish that the whole family will enjoy. Serve sweet and sour chicken over rice or noodles, and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
