LOW-FAT HERBED RANCH DRESSING

Low-Fat Herbed Ranch Dressing image

Categories     Dairy     Herb     Low Fat     Quick & Easy     Salad Dressing     Spring     Gourmet

Yield Makes about 1 cup

Number Of Ingredients 10

3/4 cup well-shaken low-fat (1 1/2%) buttermilk
2 tablespoons low-fat mayonnaise
2 tablespoons nonfat sour cream
1 tablespoon packed fresh basil leaves, minced
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh chives
2 teaspoons cider vinegar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 teaspoon sugar

Steps:

  • In a blender or food processor blend all ingredients and salt and pepper to taste until smooth. Dressing keeps, covered and chilled, 1 week. Serve dressing with soft lettuce, shellfish salad, or salmon salad.

Tips:

  • Use fresh herbs for the best flavor. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs, but use only half the amount called for in the recipe.
  • If you're using buttermilk in your dressing, be sure to shake it well before using. This will help to incorporate the fat and solids evenly.
  • Don't over-blend your dressing. If you blend it too much, it will become too thick and creamy. You want it to be light and fluffy.
  • Taste your dressing before serving and adjust the seasonings as needed. You may want to add more salt, pepper, or herbs.
  • Serve your dressing immediately or store it in the refrigerator for later use. It will keep for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Low-fat creamy herb dressing is a delicious and versatile dressing that can be used on a variety of salads, vegetables, and proteins. It's also a great way to add flavor to your favorite dishes. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make a creamy, flavorful dressing that's sure to please everyone at your table. So next time you're looking for a light and healthy dressing, give this low-fat creamy herb dressing a try. You won't be disappointed!
