MICHELLE OBAMA'S SHORTBREAD COOKIES

Michelle Obama's Shortbread Cookies image

I didn't hear about the Presidential Cookie Bake-Off that Family Circle Magazine holds during election years until this year (you can find out more about that on their website). Apparently the spouses of the candidates submit a favorite cookie recipe for people to vote for. When I saw this recipe that Michelle Obama submitted, from a close family friend of hers, I knew I had to make it. I haven't quit making it since - friends, co-workers, and family are always asking for it. When I had my first bite of it out of the oven, I had to cut and wrap them quickly, or else the delicious smell would quite likely have me eating them all myself. This is definitely going on my Christmas cookie platter this year... and every year!

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate chips: The better the chocolate chips, the better the cookies will be. Look for chocolate chips that are made with real cocoa butter and have a high percentage of cacao.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing the dough will make the cookies tough. Mix the dough just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dough before baking: Chilling the dough will help the cookies hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much in the oven.
  • Bake the cookies at a high temperature: Baking the cookies at a high temperature will help them develop a crispy exterior and a chewy interior.
  • Don't overbake the cookies: Overbaking the cookies will make them dry and crumbly. Bake the cookies just until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft.

Conclusion:

Michelle Obama's white and dark chocolate chip cookies are a delicious and easy-to-make treat. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can enjoy these classic cookies at home. Whether you're baking them for a special occasion or just because you have a sweet tooth, these cookies are sure to please everyone.
