MICHAEL'S GIN FIZZ

Michael's Gin Fizz image

Provided by Michael Symon : Food Network

Categories     beverage

Time 5m

Yield 1 cocktail

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 ounces gin, such as Old Tom Gin
2 ounces half-and-half
1 ounce simple syrup
3 small dashes orange flower water
2 drops vanilla extract, optional
1 egg white
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Juice of 1/2 lime
Ice
3 ounces seltzer water

Steps:

  • Cook's Note: Orange flower water is available at better liquor stores and Middle Eastern markets. Be very careful when adding this to your cocktail as it can easily overwhelm the flavors in this delicious drink.
  • Add the gin, half-and-half, simple syrup, orange flower water, vanilla if using, egg white and lemon and lime juices in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for 3 minutes, or blend with an immersion blender until frothy, about 20 seconds. Pour into an ice-filled highball glass, and top with the seltzer water.
  • Food Network Kitchens suggest caution in consuming raw and lightly-cooked eggs due to the risk of Salmonella or other food-borne illness. To reduce this risk, we recommend you use only fresh, properly-refrigerated, clean, grade A or AA eggs with intact shells, and avoid contact between the yolks or whites and the shell. For recipes that call for eggs that are raw or undercooked when the dish is served use shell eggs that have been treated to destroy Salmonella, by pasteurization or another approved method.

MIDNIGHT FIZZ

Midnight Fizz image

While a classic gin fizz uses lemon juice, the sweet acidity of lime in this variation skews it toward a (very) frothy gimlet. To ensure plenty of that froth, use a double shake to make the cocktail: first without ice to foam the egg white, then a second time with ice to chill and dilute the drink. Serve traditionally without ice in a small Collins or fizz glass, or go rogue and serve over a few cubes. Either way, as with all egg white drinks, drink with efficiency to capitalize on the drink's froth and avoid its inevitable separation.

Yield 1 drink

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 ounces dry gin
3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce orange liqueur, such as Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao, Cointreau or triple sec
1 egg white
Ice
Soda water, chilled

Steps:

  • In a shaker, combine the gin, lime juice, simple syrup, orange liqueur and egg white. Cover and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Add ice to the shaker, cover again and shake vigorously until chilled and well frothed, about 10 to 15 seconds more. Double-strain into a small Collins or fizz glass without ice and top with soda water. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh citrus fruits, berries, and herbs will give your Michigan Fizz a bright, delicious flavor.
  • Chill your ingredients: Chilling your ingredients before you make your cocktail will help it stay cold and refreshing.
  • Use a good quality vodka: The vodka is the base of your Michigan Fizz, so it's important to use a good quality one. Look for a vodka that is smooth and has a neutral flavor.
  • Don't over-shake your cocktail: Over-shaking your cocktail will make it cloudy and dilute the flavors.
  • Garnish your cocktail: A garnish will add a pop of color and flavor to your Michigan Fizz. Try using a lemon twist, a lime wedge, or a sprig of mint.

Conclusion:

The Michigan Fizz is a refreshing and delicious cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you're looking for a refreshing drink, give the Michigan Fizz a try!
