THE BEST SLOPPY JOES

The Best Sloppy Joes image

This is weeknight comfort food at its finest. We created a homemade sauce that is tangy and flavorful but also quick and easy. We used both ketchup and canned tomato sauce for lots of tomato-y zip and just a touch of brown sugar for a bit of sweetness and slight caramel finish. Green bell pepper is a key addition; it really enhances the other ingredients, elevating the flavor profile into the realm of a true sloppy joe.

Coarse salt and ground pepper
1 pound ground beef
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
4 hamburger buns, split and toasted

  • Season the mixture with more salt and pepper, as desired. Spoon onto buns, and serve immediately.

Tips:

  • To make the moo shu pork filling, start by marinating the pork in soy sauce, rice wine, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger for at least 30 minutes. This will help to tenderize the pork and infuse it with flavor.
  • When cooking the pork, be sure to stir-fry it over high heat until it is browned and cooked through. This will help to create a slightly crispy texture and prevent the pork from becoming tough.
  • For the sloppy joe sauce, use a combination of ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar. This will create a tangy and flavorful sauce that pairs perfectly with the moo shu pork.
  • To assemble the sloppy joes, simply pile the moo shu pork filling onto the hamburger buns and top with the sloppy joe sauce. You can also add some shredded cabbage or lettuce for extra crunch.

Conclusion:

Moo shu sloppy joes are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. They are also a great way to use up leftover moo shu pork. So next time you are looking for a new and exciting way to enjoy moo shu pork, give these sloppy joes a try.
