HOT SPICED TEA FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Hot Spiced Tea for the Holidays image

This is an old family favorite, handed down from my great-grandmother. The holidays officially begin with Christmas carols and my favorite hot spiced tea! Definitely a seasonal comfort beverage for me! I prefer to use fresh juices with pulp. The flavors are different. Canned pineapple in light syrup is best. Set the pineapple chunks aside for the rest of your holiday baking. Store leftovers in refrigerator and reheat as needed.

Tips:

  • Select the Right Tea: Choose a robust black tea like Assam or English Breakfast as a base for your mulled tea. These teas can withstand the spices and heat without becoming bitter.
  • Fresh Spices Are Key: Opt for whole spices like cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, and cloves for a more intense flavor compared to pre-ground spices.
  • Peel and Add Citrus: Incorporate citrus flavors by peeling and adding orange or lemon zest to the tea. Avoid the white pith as it can add bitterness.
  • Sweeten to Taste: Adjust the sweetness of your mulled tea by adding honey, maple syrup, or sugar to taste. Natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup impart a richer flavor.
  • Garnish for Festivity: Add a festive touch by garnishing your mulled tea with cinnamon sticks, star anise, or a twist of citrus. This enhances the visual appeal of your tea.

Conclusion:

Indulge in the warmth and comfort of mulled holiday tea, a delightful beverage that captures the essence of the season. Experiment with different spice combinations to create a unique flavor profile that matches your preferences. Whether you're hosting a holiday gathering or simply seeking a cozy treat, this aromatic tea will fill your home with festive cheer. So, gather your ingredients, brew a pot of mulled tea, and savor the flavors that make the holidays special.
