HONEY MUSTARD VINAIGRETTE COLESLAW DRESSING

Honey Mustard Vinaigrette Coleslaw Dressing image

I volunteer for my local public TV station and was co-chair of the food committee that provided food and snacks for volunteers & staff at a major fund raiser in the late spring. The food tent is always located in the outdoor court yard next to the grill. I developed this recipe as an alternative for mayonnaise based coleslaw dressing since the food needed to hold up in the heat of the outdoors. They ate it as a side dish, and on their hot dogs and burgers. They even came back for seconds! This is great for regular salads and dipping too. Enjoy!

MEMPHIS STYLE MUSTARD COLESLAW RECIPE

Memphis Style Mustard Coleslaw Recipe image

This is THE most flavorful coleslaw recipe you'll ever try, I can promise you that. You've never had anything quite like this. Perfect with Memphis barbeque ribs or chicken (or whatever), you'll probably want to make this instead of your regular coleslaw for... well, forever. It's that good. You'll want to start this a day in advance if you have time. Because while taking the time to draw the extra liquid from the veggies really makes the texture of the final slaw, it does take some time to drain, rinse, and dry them

Time 20m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 head green cabbage, shredded (or 1 16 oz. bag coleslaw mix)
2 large carrots, shredded
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
1 medium white onion, finely chopped
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup yellow mustard
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/4 cup chili sauce (can use ketchup in a pinch)
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
1 teaspoon celery seed
2/3 cup brown sugar

Steps:

  • Combine prepared vegetables (cabbage, carrot, jalepeño, and onion) and salt together in a strainer over the sink.
  • Let sit at least 15 minutes (1-2 hours is better) to drain. This keeps the finished slaw from being nasty and watery.
  • Rinse the vegetables under cold water and let dry. In a bowl or plastic bag, place in the refrigerator until ready to use, up to one day.
  • To make dressing, combine mustards, vinegar, chili sauce, mayonnaise, sour cream (or Greek yogurt), and sugar in a medium, non-reactive saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add celery seed. Reduce heat and simmer about 3-5 minutes, until sugar has dissolved.
  • Cool to room temperature. Pour over veggies in a large serving bowl. Mix well.
  • Refrigerate at least an hour before serving. Perfect on a Memphis barbeque pulled pork sandwich.

HONEY MUSTARD COLESLAW WITH CRANBERRIES AND ALMONDS RECIPE - (4.5/5)

Honey Mustard Coleslaw with Cranberries and Almonds Recipe - (4.5/5) image

Provided by mytastytreasures

Number Of Ingredients 13

Dressing:
5 cups shredded cabbage, or prepackaged coleslaw
mix
1/2 cups almonds, toasted(slivered, or chopped)
1 1/2 cups dried cranberries
1/2 cup celery, diced
1/4 cup chopped green onions, white and green parts
3/4 cups chopped green bell pepper
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
1 tablespoon honey mustard
1 tablespoon honey
Salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Combine ccoleslaw mix, TOASTED almonds, cranberries, celery, green onions (scallions), and green pepper in a large plastic bowl with a snap-on lid. Combine all dressing ingredients, adding salt and pepper to taste, and refrigerate until ready to serve. Pour dressing over slaw just before serving. Stir well.

Tips:

  • For a more authentic coleslaw, use a sharp knife or mandoline to thinly slice the cabbage and carrots. This will help the vegetables stay crisp and absorb the dressing better.
  • If you don't have any celery seeds on hand, you can use a pinch of ground mustard or celery salt instead.
  • Be sure to taste the dressing before adding it to the coleslaw. You may need to adjust the amount of vinegar, sugar, or salt to suit your taste.
  • Let the coleslaw chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the cabbage to soften slightly.
  • Serve coleslaw as a side dish with fried chicken, grilled fish, or pulled pork.

Conclusion:

Mustard coleslaw is a classic side dish that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its tangy, sweet, and creamy dressing, it is the perfect complement to any summer cookout or potluck. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy side dish, give mustard coleslaw a try.
