If you're craving the iconic KFC coleslaw but don't have the time or resources to visit a KFC restaurant, recreating it at home is a great option. This versatile dish can be enjoyed as a side dish, a topping for sandwiches or tacos, or as a refreshing snack. With a few simple ingredients and some basic kitchen tools, you can whip up a batch of homemade KFC coleslaw that rivals the original. Steps:
- Chop the vegetables very fine: the cabbage, carrots, and onions are all chopped very fine, almost like the size of rice. You can chop them with a sharp knife, or if you have a food processor with a shredding attachment, use that and then finely chop with a sharp knife. (See note about using a pre-shredded coleslaw mix.)
- In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients for the dressing. Whisk until smooth.
- Add in cabbage, carrots, and onion; mix well until everything is thoroughly coated.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight. (If you have time - and can remember! - stir it occasionally. This will give you the absolute best results.) Stir again before serving and enjoy!

MY KFC COLESLAW RE-MAKE
I've had many people, over the years, accuse me of trying to pass off KFC's Coleslaw as my own home-made. So I'm finally letting my family and friends (and the world) know my recipe. I think you will enjoy this very much if you follow the directions as written. Do Not use more sugar than specified. Give yourself one day ahead for prep. (Cook time is the overnight refrigeration time). Enjoy!

Steps:
- Mix 1/4 cup of the divided milk with the vinegar and lemon juice in a glass (I use my glass measuring cup, less dishes). "Stir well" and let sit, "undisturbed", for 5 minutes (this is to create buttermilk).
- Meanwhile, in a large glass or plastic bowl, thoroughly mix (whisk) together the remaining 1/4 cup milk with the Miracle Whip, sugar, salt, pepper, celery seed and dried onion. Now your butter milk should be ready, so mix that in well, also.
- Now for the veggies. You can either put the bag of coleslaw mix into a food processor to dice it up very tiny (like KFC), or leave it shredded the way it is packaged. Your choice.
- Gently stir the slaw mix into the dressing until completely coated. It will look very dry, and you will probably not like it if you eat it right away (over night is the key to this). Cover the glass or plastic bowl tightly with plastic wrap and leave it sit for a full 24 hours. (Really). Stir at least once overnight.
- Next day, remove from the fridge, stir to moisten and serve. Enjoy!
Tips and Conclusion
Achieving the perfect KFC coleslaw at home requires careful attention to detail and a few essential tips.
- Fresh Ingredients: Use fresh, crisp cabbage and carrots for the best texture and flavor. Avoid wilted or蔫的 vegetables.
- Shredding Technique: Use a sharp knife or a mandoline to thinly shred the cabbage and carrots. This helps them absorb the dressing better and creates a more uniform texture.
- Dressing Balance: The key to KFC coleslaw is achieving the right balance of sweet, tangy, and creamy flavors. Adjust the amounts of mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, and mustard to suit your taste preferences.
- Chill Thoroughly: After mixing, refrigerate the coleslaw for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to meld together and the cabbage to soften slightly.
- Serving Suggestions: KFC coleslaw is a versatile side dish that pairs well with fried chicken, burgers, sandwiches, and grilled meats. It can also be enjoyed as a refreshing salad on its own.
In conclusion, making KFC coleslaw at home is a rewarding experience that allows you to enjoy this classic side dish with the satisfaction of knowing you made it yourself. By following these tips and experimenting with different ingredient ratios, you can create a coleslaw that rivals the taste of the original KFC recipe. So, gather your ingredients, put on your apron, and get ready to enjoy homemade KFC coleslaw that will impress your family and friends.
