1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup instant milk
2 cups water
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 onion, chopped
3/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1 can pinto beans
grated cheese
salsa
lettuce
tomatoes
onion
sour cream
green onion (whatever sounds good)

Steps:

  • To make fry bread: Mix dry ingredients.
  • Stir in water.
  • Knead dough lightly; cover and let rest 15 minutes.
  • Heat 1" vegetable oil in a 10" skillet.
  • Pinch off dough in small amounts and pat dough into thin 8" circles.
  • In the hot oil, quickly brown on both sides.

1 pound dried pinto beans
6 cups water, or as needed
16 ounces frozen chili (such as Johnson®), thawed
1 ½ teaspoons ground cumin
1 ½ teaspoons dried oregano
1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
1 ½ teaspoons onion powder
salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 cups all-purpose flour (such as Blue Bird®)
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 tablespoon salt
½ cup hot water, or as needed
¾ cup lard
1 (16 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese
2 tomatoes, chopped
2 onions, chopped
2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce

Steps:

  • Place pinto beans in a bowl and cover with room-temperature water. Let soak, about 8 hours. Drain.
  • Transfer drained beans to a large pot; pour in 6 cups water. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally and adding water if the level gets below 1 inch, until beans are tender, about 1 hour.

4 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons powdered milk
2 (8 ounce) cans cooked chili (i use homemade)
2 cups shredded lettuce (approximate)
1 cup diced onion (approximate)
1 cup diced tomato (approxiate)
2 cups shredded cheese (approxiate)
2 -3 cups lard or 2 -3 cups oil, for frying the bread
sour cream (optional)
avocados (optional) or guacamole (optional)
salsa (optional)

Steps:

  • mix dry ingredients together in large bowl, add 1 1/2 cups hot water, mix well(i use my hands) dough should be soft and pliable, cover with plastic wrap and let sit for at least an hour.
  • form dough into small balls and pat out on floured surface.
  • in hot oil fry bread on both sides til nice and golden brown.
  • ( a cast iron skillet is best for the frying, but any heavy duty skillet will work).
  • top fry bread with chili, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and any other taco ingredient that you like.

2 15-oz cans tomato sauce
1 package Williams brand original chili mix
2 tablespoons chopped garlic (can buy in jars)
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste
Jalepeno peppers, if desired.
Fry bread
There are two possibilities for fry bread.
1 package of Rhodes frozen Texas style yeast rolls
1 bottle of vegetable oil
Buy Rhodes frozen Texas style yeast rolls. Thaw, then flatten and stretch. Let set for a few minutes, then deep fry in skillet of vegetable oil, being sure to turn and brown both sides.
2)or, 5-pound package of self-rising flour
12 oz bottle of vegetable oil
For The Taco
1 medium onion, diced
1 large tomato, diced
1 package of finely grated cheese (cheddar or cheddar/Colby jack mixture)
1 bunch of leaf lettuce, rinsed and drained
1 small can chopped chilis

Steps:

  • Brown meat, onions, garlic, and peppers in skillet. Drain and rinse. Put back in skillet. Add tomato sauce and chili mix and simmer. After about 5 minutes, taste and add salt, pepper, garlic powder and any other ingredient for desired flavor and hotness. Continue on low simmer for at least ten more minutes. Fry bread 1 5-pound package of self-rising flour 12 oz bottle of vegetable oil Pour about 2 cups of flour into a large bowl and slowly add cold water until you have a smooth thick paste. Add extra flour to top and sides and begin folding flour into paste until you obtain a bread dogh that is of a good consistency(that means that you may have to experiment a little to get the right texture). Cover with a thin layer of flour and let set for a couple of minutes. Flour hands and pinch off a piece of dough, flatten between hands, and drop into hot vegetable oil. Be sure to keep hands floured because the dough will be very sticky. Repeat process, making fry bread desired size.
