Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes are best for smash browns, as they have a high starch content that helps them crisp up nicely.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed skillet: This will help distribute the heat evenly and prevent the potatoes from burning.
  • Don't overcrowd the skillet: Cook the potatoes in batches if necessary, to ensure that they have enough room to crisp up.
  • Press the potatoes down firmly: This will help them flatten out and cook evenly.
  • Don't flip the potatoes too often: Only flip them once, when they are golden brown on the bottom.
  • Season the potatoes generously: Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are all great options.
  • Serve the potatoes immediately: They are best when they are hot and crispy.

Conclusion:

Smash browns are a quick and easy breakfast or brunch dish that can be made with just a few simple ingredients. They are crispy, flavorful, and versatile, and can be served with a variety of toppings. Whether you like them plain or loaded with your favorite toppings, smash browns are sure to be a hit.
