Tips:

  • Choose fresh and tender okra: Look for okra that is small, firm, and has a deep green color. Avoid okra that is bruised or has brown spots.
  • Soak the okra in water before cooking: This will help to reduce the okra's sliminess.
  • Cook the okra over medium heat: High heat will make the okra tough and slimy.
  • Add acidic ingredients to the dish: Acidic ingredients, such as tomatoes, vinegar, or lemon juice, will help to balance out the okra's sliminess.
  • Serve the okra immediately: Okra is best served fresh and hot. If you need to store it, let it cool completely before refrigerating. Reheat the okra gently over low heat until warmed through.

Conclusion:

Okra, tomatoes, and bacon is a classic Southern dish that is easy to make and packed with flavor. The okra is tender and slightly slimy, the tomatoes are sweet and juicy, and the bacon adds a smoky, salty flavor. This dish is perfect for a weeknight meal or a potluck. It can be served with rice, mashed potatoes, or cornbread.
