SLOW COOKER CHICKEN AND DRESSING

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dressing image

Holidays are so much easier since I started making this slow cooker chicken and dressing. Making the dressing in the slow cooker frees up the ovens for other dishes on holidays. Sometimes I add the chicken; sometimes I don't. I often assemble it weeks in advance and freeze it; then I let it thaw in the refrigerator before putting it in the slow cooker.

Tips:

  • Choose the right chicken: For best results, use a whole chicken or bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts or thighs. The bones and skin will add flavor to the dressing.
  • Prepare the chicken: Before cooking, rinse the chicken thoroughly and pat it dry. This will help the seasoning adhere to the chicken and prevent the skin from becoming soggy.
  • Season the chicken liberally: Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to season the chicken. You can also add other herbs and spices to your taste, such as paprika, thyme, or rosemary.
  • Cook the chicken on low heat: This will help to ensure that the chicken is cooked through without drying out. Cook the chicken for 6-8 hours on low, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Make the dressing: While the chicken is cooking, prepare the dressing according to the recipe. Use a combination of bread cubes, celery, onion, and herbs. You can also add other ingredients to your taste, such as nuts, dried fruit, or sausage.
  • Stuff the chicken: Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the crock pot and let it cool slightly. Then, stuff the chicken with the dressing. You can also spoon the dressing around the chicken in the crock pot.
  • Cook the chicken and dressing together: Cover the crock pot and cook the chicken and dressing together on low for 1-2 hours, or until the dressing is heated through.

Conclusion:

This Old-Time Chicken n' Dressing Crock Pot Style is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a family dinner. The chicken is cooked to perfection and the dressing is moist and flavorful. This recipe is sure to become a family favorite.
