HOT APPLE CIDER SPIKED WITH CALVADOS APPLE BRANDY

Hot Apple Cider Spiked With Calvados Apple Brandy image

Grown-up hot apple cider. Perfect for a cold winter day. My recipe actually calls for mulling spice, however, RecipeZaar does not recognize it as an ingredient. Use 3-4 tablespoons mulling spice in place of allspice, cloves, cinnamon sticks and orange rind, if available. Use good quality fresh apple cider (not apple juice.) This would also make a nice cocktail if cooled and served over ice.

Categories     Beverages

Time 30m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 gallon good quality apple cider (found in produce section)
2 cups apple brandy (such as Calvados)
2 teaspoons whole allspice
1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
2 orange strips (3 x 1-inch)

Steps:

  • Bring cider to simmer over medium heat.
  • Add mulling spice (using cheesecloth or large tea ball). Mull for 15 minutes over medium-low heat. Remove.
  • Stir in brandy. Serve.

Tips:

  • Select the right cider: Opt for a fresh, high-quality apple cider, preferably one that's unfiltered and unpasteurized, for the best flavor.
  • Use fresh oranges and cloves: Fresh oranges and cloves impart a more vibrant flavor to the cider. Avoid using dried or pre-ground spices.
  • Simmer gently: Bring the cider to a gentle simmer and maintain it throughout the cooking process. This helps infuse the flavors without evaporating the alcohol content.
  • Add brandy to taste: The amount of brandy you add depends on your personal preference. Start with a small amount and adjust to taste.
  • Garnish with orange slices and cloves: Garnish the cider with orange slices and cloves for an extra touch of festive flair.

Conclusion:

Orange-cloved hot cider with brandy is a delightful and aromatic holiday beverage that's perfect for sipping on a cold winter night. The combination of sweet and tart flavors, along with the warmth of the brandy, makes it a truly special drink. Whether you're hosting a party or simply enjoying a cozy night in, this cider is sure to impress. So, gather your ingredients, put on your apron, and get ready to create this magical elixir that will warm your heart and soul. Happy holidays and cheers to the joys of the season!
