Tips:

  • Choose the Right Potatoes: Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes are the best choices for oven-baked fries and potato skins. They have a fluffy interior and crispy skin, making them perfect for baking.
  • Cut Potatoes Evenly: Cut the potatoes into uniform sizes and shapes to ensure even cooking. Unevenly cut potatoes will result in some pieces being overcooked while others are undercooked.
  • Soak Potato Fries: Soaking the potato fries in cold water for 30 minutes before baking helps remove excess starch, resulting in crispier fries. Pat the fries dry thoroughly before tossing them with oil and seasonings.
  • Use Parchment Paper: Line your baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent the fries and potato skins from sticking. This also makes cleanup easier.
  • Toss Potatoes with Oil and Seasonings: Before baking, toss the potato fries and potato skins with olive oil, salt, pepper, and other desired seasonings. Make sure the potatoes are evenly coated.
  • Bake at High Temperature: Bake the fries and potato skins at a high temperature, around 425°F (220°C). This will help them crisp up quickly and evenly.
  • Flip Potatoes Halfway Through Cooking: To ensure even cooking and crispiness, flip the potato fries and potato skins halfway through the baking time.
  • Watch Cooking Time: Keep an eye on the fries and potato skins during baking to prevent overcooking. The cooking time may vary depending on the size of the potatoes and the thickness of the fries.
