PARMESAN CHEESE DIP / SPREAD

Parmesan Cheese Dip / Spread image

This yummy recipe comes from my friend Elaine. She brought it to a party and after only one bite everyone was asking for the recipe. It is very good with your favorite crackers but is even better w/ sliced fresh bread. I think it would even be good over steamed broccoli as well. The next time I make it I plan to bake some in bite sized pastry shells and see how that turns out.

Time 35m

Yield 3 cups, 20-30 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 (8 ounce) packages of softened cream cheese
8 ounces wedge parmesan cheese, shredded
1/4 cup minced onion
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 huge scoop mayonnaise, NOT Miracle Whip

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients together until well blended.
  • Bake in a small ungreased covered casserole dish for 20 minute @ 400 degrees.
  • Allow to cool a little before serving. Serve warm with your favorite crackers/bread.
  • A note about the Mayonnaise. She didn't give me a measurement but I would say start with about a 1/4 cup and add more if it still seems too thick. The mayonnaise adds flavor but it can make the dip too thin if you use to much.

10 to 12 small white onions (pearl or boiling onions), very thinly sliced

Yield Makes about 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 cup finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano (2 ounces)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Whisk together all ingredients in a bowl.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients, especially the Parmesan cheese. A good Parmesan cheese will have a nutty, slightly salty flavor and a hard, crumbly texture.
  • Grate the Parmesan cheese yourself instead of buying pre-grated cheese. Freshly grated cheese will have a better flavor and texture.
  • Use a food processor or blender to make the cheese spread smooth and creamy. If you don't have a food processor or blender, you can mash the cheese with a fork until it is smooth.
  • Add other ingredients to the cheese spread to taste. Some popular additions include garlic, herbs, nuts, and fruits.
  • Serve the cheese spread with crackers, bread, or vegetables. It can also be used as a dip for chicken, fish, or shrimp.

Conclusion:

Parmesan cheese spread is a versatile and delicious appetizer or snack. It can be made with just a few simple ingredients and can be customized to taste. Whether you serve it with crackers, bread, or vegetables, Parmesan cheese spread is sure to be a hit.
