PARTY MINT PATTIES

We made these in our Home Economics class when I was a teenager...and luckily ..one of my classmate still had the recipe...so I thought I would share it.

Categories     Candies

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/4 c real butter (softened)
1/2 c light corn syrup
4 c confectioners' sugar (divided)
1/2 tsp peppermint extract
1-?? drops of food coloring of choice (amount depends on how much you want)
1 c grandulated sugar

Steps:

  • 1. In a small mixing bowl combine butter and corn syrup. Add 2 c. confectioners' sugar and extract; beat well. Stir in 1 c. confectioners' sugar. Turn out on a work surface sprinkled with confectioners' sugar; knead until sugar is absorbed and smooth.
  • 2. Divide the candy dough into as many different colors that you desire. Add 2 drops of the desired color and work into the dough. Shape into 3/4" balls; roll in grandulated sugar. Flatten with a fork. If you are using a candy mold, follow the same steps, except you will press gently into the mold after rolling in sugar and you will not press with the fork.
  • 3. Let stand, uncovered at room temp for 1 day. Store in an airtight container. You can also separate the mixture and add the separate flavors and food coloring...i.e. red for peppermint...green for spearmint. Or if you prefer one flavor..you can still separate so you can have an array of colors. Next we rolled them in a long tubular shape and rolled waxpaper around the tube..then refrigerated until chilled and cut using bakers string or a slim sharp knife.

Tips for Making Perfect Party Mint Patties:

  • Choose high-quality chocolate: Use a good quality dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate for the best flavor.
  • Temper the chocolate properly: Tempering helps to stabilize the chocolate, making it less likely to bloom and giving it a smooth, velvety texture. If you don't have a chocolate tempering machine, you can temper the chocolate using the microwave or a double boiler.
  • Use a mold that is the right size: The size of the mold will determine the size of your mint patties. If you want large mint patties, use a larger mold. If you want small mint patties, use a smaller mold.
  • Don't overfill the molds: When filling the molds with chocolate, don't overfill them. This will make it difficult to get the mint patties out of the mold and could cause them to break.
  • Chill the mint patties properly: After filling the molds, chill the mint patties in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This will help them to set and make them easier to remove from the mold.
  • Store the mint patties properly: Store the mint patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Party mint patties are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that is perfect for any occasion. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a batch of mint patties that will be enjoyed by everyone. So next time you're looking for a sweet treat, give party mint patties a try. You won't be disappointed!
