FOR THE CAKE:
Bake or purchase a vanilla pound cake or angel food cake. Allow to come to room temperature, then cut into 1" cubes (Optional step- I trimmed off crusts first). Lay out in a single layer on a large baking sheet; set aside.
FOR THE SAUCE:
3 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen)
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup cold tap water
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
FOR THE CREAM:
4 ounces (half an 8-oz block) cream cheese
1/4 cup sugar
1 small box vanilla instant pudding mix
1 cup whole milk or half-and-half
12 - 16 ounces Cool Whip, divided

Steps:

  • MAKE THE SAUCE: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar and cornstarch; add the water and lemon juice. Add the blueberries. Bring to a bubble over medium-high heat; then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until sauce is clear and thickened, about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. (Or fill a large pot (or sink) half full of ice and place the pot of blueberry sauce on the ice, stirring occasionally until completely cooled.) MAKE THE CREAM: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the dry pudding mix and the milk until thickened. Set aside. In another bowl and using a mixer, beat cream cheese and sugar until creamy. Beat in the pudding mixture. Using a spatula, gently fold in 8 ozs. of the Cool Whip. TO ASSEMBLE: In a clear bowl or trifle bowl (larger than mine!), layer cake cubes, pudding mixture, and blueberry sauce. Repeat layers as many times as needed, depending on the size of your bowl. Top with remaining Cool Whip. (I used the leftover sauce on top of the Cool Whip.) Keep refrigerated.

BLUEBERRY PEACH TRIFLE

Blueberry Peach Trifle image

I first tried this recipe because it looked so pretty...but I had no idea it would taste so good. It's just delicious, and easy to make. I serve it in a deep glass bowl for Sunday dinner or on special occasions. I've found the custard works quite well in a pie crust, too. I do a lot of cooking, baking, canning and freezing for my husband, Roman, and our two daughters here on our farm. I've enjoyed cooking ever since I was young and helped my mother in her kitchen.

Categories     dessert

Time 30m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

6 peaches, halved, pit removed, cut into wedges
1 1/2 pints blueberries
1 to 2 teaspoons orange flower water
2 tablespoons cane sugar, optional
2 cups plain yogurt, optional

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, with a large spoon, gently combine peaches and blueberries. Add the orange flower water and continue to combine, serve cold or pour fruit into a 12 by 8 baking dish. Sprinkle with cane sugar and bake in a preheated 325 degree F oven for 20 minutes, until sugar caramelizes. Remove from oven, top with yogurt, if desired, and enjoy.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, juicy peaches. This will ensure that your trifle has the best flavor.
  • Make sure your custard is thick enough. It should be able to coat the back of a spoon.
  • Don't over-whip the cream. It should be stiff enough to hold peaks, but not so stiff that it's grainy.
  • Use a trifle dish or large glass bowl. This will allow you to layer the ingredients in a visually appealing way.
  • Chill the trifle for at least 4 hours before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the trifle to set.

Conclusion:

Peaches and cream trifle with blueberry sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its layers of fresh peaches, creamy custard, whipped cream, and blueberry sauce, this trifle is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a special dessert to make, give this peaches and cream trifle a try. You won't be disappointed!
