1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons poppy seeds
¾ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground mace
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
3 eggs
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups confectioners' sugar
¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
2 egg yolks
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
½ cup orange juice
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 ½ tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons grated orange zest

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease and flour two 8 inch round cake pans. In a small bowl, stir together flour, poppy seeds, baking powder, salt, and mace; set aside.

3/4 cup whole milk
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

FILLING:
3/4 cup sugar
5 teaspoons cornstarch
2-1/4 cups whole milk
