Time 1h55m

Yield 1 cake

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 butter poundcake (thawed, if using frozen ones)
8 lemons
6 eggs
1 cup sugar
3 cups milk

Steps:

  • Butter a 13x9 pan. Cut pound cake into cubes (not bite size -- large pieces like you'd do for bread pudding) and place in buttered pan.
  • Squeeze juice from lemons over cake.
  • Whisk eggs and sugar in bowl until combined.
  • Whisk in milk. (I'll sometimes add some lemon zest to this, too.)
  • Pour over pound cake; let soak for an hour.
  • Heat oven to 350.
  • Cover pan with foil and bake 45-60 minutes. Sometimes I'll uncover the pan for the last 10 minutes or so to crisp up the top.

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 About 3 cups of cake cubes
4 eggs
1 3/4 cups of milk
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
whipped cream for topping, or other desired sauce

Steps:

  • Lay your cake pieces on the bottom of a buttered baking dish, fitting them in snuggly next to eachother. Combine 4 eggs, 1 3/4 cups of milk and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and whisk together. This will be the custard. (you may need a little more milk if you are using more cake). Carefully pour the custard over the cake cubes and press down with a spatula to absorb the liquid. Bake in a 350F oven for about 35 minutes. When ready to serve, cut into pieces and drizzle the warm cake pudding w/ heavy cream (as if the cake-turn-pudding didn't have enough fat & calories).

Tips:

  • Use a variety of bread cubes for a more flavorful bread pudding. Try using a mix of white, wheat, or even rye bread.
  • If you don't have any stale bread, you can make your own by cubing fresh bread and spreading it out on a baking sheet. Bake the bread cubes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes, or until they are dry and lightly toasted.
  • Soak the bread cubes in a custard mixture for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will help the bread cubes absorb the custard and become moist and flavorful.
  • Add your favorite mix-ins to the bread pudding batter, such as chocolate chips, nuts, fruit, or spices. Be creative and experiment with different flavors.
  • Bake the bread pudding in a greased baking dish for 45-60 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
  • Serve the bread pudding warm with a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream, or fruit sauce.

Conclusion:

Pound cake bread pudding is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its moist and flavorful texture, this bread pudding is sure to be a hit with everyone. So next time you have some stale bread, don't throw it away - make pound cake bread pudding instead!
