Time 5h15m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 5 to 7 pound boston butt pork roast
1 large onion, chopped
1 bottle ketchup (small bottle)
1 can(s) tomato sauce (small)
1/4 c brown sugar
1/2 c cider vinegar
1/4 c mustard
1 tsp tobasco sauce

Steps:

  • 1. Place Boston Butt in crock pot, followed by the rest of the ingredients. Let it cook all day. The longer the better. It done when it starts to fall off of the bone. Remove bone and fat and discard. If you want it to thicken up a little bit, place on the stove in a large skillet or dutch oven on medium heat. Stir and shred with fork. Keep an eye on it so that it doesn't scorch. Serve on hamburger buns, when you think it has thickened enough.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of pork: Pork shoulder (also known as pork butt) is the best cut for pulled pork because it has a good amount of fat, which helps to keep it moist and flavorful during the long cooking process.
  • Use a dry rub: A dry rub helps to flavor the pork and create a crispy crust. Be sure to rub the pork all over with the dry rub, including the underside.
  • Cook the pork low and slow: The ideal temperature for cooking pulled pork is between 225°F and 250°F. This allows the pork to cook slowly and evenly, resulting in tender, juicy meat.
  • Baste the pork regularly: Basting the pork with a mixture of apple cider vinegar, water, and brown sugar helps to keep it moist and flavorful. Baste the pork every 30 minutes or so.
  • Let the pork rest before shredding: Once the pork is cooked, let it rest for at least 15 minutes before shredding. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in more flavorful pulled pork.

Conclusion:

Pulled pork is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Whether you serve it on a bun with your favorite barbecue sauce, or use it as a filling for tacos or burritos, pulled pork is sure to be a hit.
