2 cups packed brown sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups chopped black walnuts or walnuts, divided

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in 1-1/4 cups walnuts. Finely chop the remaining nuts. , Shape dough into two 15-in. rolls. Roll in chopped nuts, pressing gently. Wrap each in plastic wrap. 1 cup white sugar
1 cup shortening (such as Crisco®)
1 egg
1 cup canned pumpkin
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped walnuts
4 cups powdered sugar
½ cup butter, softened
1 tablespoon milk, or as needed
1 teaspoon maple extract, or to taste

Steps:

1 3/4 cups flour
3 tablespoons sugar, plus a little extra for topping
1 tablespoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
5 tablespoons cold butter, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
1/2 cup light cream, plus a little extra for glaze
1/3 cup solidly packed cooked pumpkin or 1/3 cup canned pumpkin
1 1/2 tablespoons honey

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 375°F.

1/2 cup chopped walnuts, toasted
16 walnut halves

Steps:

  • Position rack in center of oven; preheat to 375°F. Butter heavy large baking sheet. Mix flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, salt and cardamom in medium bowl to blend .
