Number Of Ingredients 5

6 cups apples, peeled, cored and chopped
3/4 cup water
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup white sugar

Steps:

  • In a 2 quart saucepan over medium heat, combine apples, water, cinnamon, and cloves. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes.
  • Stir in sugar, and simmer 5 more minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Apples: Select apples that are firm, ripe, and have a good balance of sweetness and tartness. Some popular apples for applesauce include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
  • Peel and Core the Apples: Use a sharp knife or an apple peeler to remove the skin from the apples. Then, use an apple corer to remove the core and seeds.
  • Cut the Apples into Even Pieces: Cut the peeled and cored apples into evenly sized pieces. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Cook the Apples with a Liquid: Applesauce can be made with water, apple cider, or even white wine. The liquid helps to break down the apples and create a smooth sauce.
  • Add Sweetener and Spices: Sugar, honey, or maple syrup can be added to taste. You can also add spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger for extra flavor.
  • Cook the Applesauce Until Soft: Simmer the applesauce over low heat until the apples are very soft and can be easily mashed with a fork.
  • Blend the Applesauce: Use an immersion blender or a regular blender to blend the applesauce until it reaches your desired consistency.
  • Serve the Applesauce Warm or Cold: Applesauce can be served warm, at room temperature, or even chilled. It can be enjoyed on its own, as a topping for pancakes or waffles, or as an ingredient in baked goods.

Conclusion:

With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious and versatile sauce that can be enjoyed in many different ways.
