LOW-SALT HIDDEN VALLEY RANCH MIX

Low-Salt Hidden Valley Ranch Mix image

Packaged ranch dressing mix is so incredibly versatile. It's also loaded with salt and MSG. I've found a lot of copycat recipes, but most of them still have a lot of salt in them. Here's my version. When mixing up dressing or dip, let it sit in the fridge for at least an hour before serving to let it thicken and allow the flavors time to come out.

Tips:

  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs like dill, chives, parsley, and cilantro add a burst of flavor to ranch dressing. Finely chop them and add them just before serving for the best flavor.
  • Use buttermilk instead of milk: Buttermilk gives ranch dressing a slightly tangy flavor and creamy texture. If you don't have buttermilk on hand, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Don't overmix the dressing: Overmixing the dressing can make it too thick and pasty. Mix it just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Let the dressing chill before serving: Chilling the dressing allows the flavors to meld and develop. Serve it cold for the best flavor.
  • Use low-sodium ingredients: To make a low-sodium ranch dressing, use low-sodium mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk. You can also reduce the amount of salt in the recipe or omit it altogether.

Conclusion:

Ranch dressing is a versatile condiment that can be used on a variety of dishes. It's perfect for salads, vegetables, chicken, fish, and even pizza. With a few simple ingredients and a few minutes of your time, you can make a delicious and healthy ranch dressing at home.
