These came from a grandmother to one of the girls in our youth group. She was born in Belgium and this is her family recipe - they are rich and lovely. I use splenda now for the recipe as my son is diabetic, but it works with sugar beautifully too. These are the ones you only eat once a year! Great as dessert waffles too!

Tips:

  • Use a waffle maker with deep pockets. This will ensure that your waffles are cooked evenly and have a crispy exterior.
  • Heat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. This will help to prevent the waffles from sticking.
  • Use a combination of all-purpose flour and bread flour. This will give your waffles a light and fluffy texture.
  • Do not overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the waffles tough.
  • Let the batter rest for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This will help the gluten to develop and give the waffles a better texture.
  • Cook the waffles until they are golden brown and crispy. This will ensure that they are cooked through.
  • Serve the waffles immediately with your favorite toppings. Waffles are best when they are hot and fresh.
