Steps:
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 2-quart baking dish.
- Bring the rice, water, and salt to a boil in a saucepan. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed, 20 to 25 minutes.
- While the rice is cooking, cook the bacon in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Reserve about 1 tablespoon of bacon drippings in the pan. Reduce heat to medium. Drain the bacon on a plate lined with paper towels; crumble the bacon once cooled enough to handle.
- Cook and stir the onions in the reserved bacon drippings until translucent, 5 to 8 minutes. Stir in the crumbled bacon, tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce; bring the mixture to a simmer, reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes. Spoon the cooked rice into the prepared baking dish and stir the tomato-bacon mixture into the rice until evenly combined.
- Cover the dish and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

Tips:
- Choose the Right Rice: Use a short-grain or medium-grain rice for a chewier texture and better absorption of the flavorful broth.
- Wash the Rice: Rinsing the rice before cooking removes excess starch and helps prevent it from becoming gummy.
- Toast the Rice: Toasting the rice in a little oil or butter before adding the liquid enhances its flavor and gives it a nutty aroma.
- Use a Good Broth: The broth is the foundation of the dish, so use a flavorful homemade or store-bought broth. You can also add other liquids like coconut milk or tomato juice for a richer flavor.
- Add Aromatics: Infuse your rice with flavor by adding aromatics like garlic, onions, ginger, and lemongrass to the pot.
- Season Well: Don't be afraid to season your rice generously. Salt, pepper, and other spices like cumin, paprika, or turmeric can elevate the flavor.
- Cook the Rice Properly: Follow the cooking instructions on the rice package or recipe to ensure perfect doneness. Generally, the ratio of rice to liquid is 1:1.5 or 1:2.
- Let the Rice Rest: After cooking, let the rice rest covered for a few minutes before fluffing it with a fork. This allows the rice to absorb any remaining liquid and prevents it from becoming mushy.
Conclusion:
Creating delicious and versatile red rice dishes is easy with the right techniques and ingredients. Experiment with different types of rice, broths, and seasonings to find your perfect combination. Whether you prefer a simple and comforting bowl of red rice or a more elaborate dish with added vegetables, proteins, and spices, these recipes provide a flavorful foundation for your culinary creations. Remember to pay attention to the cooking process, adjust the seasoning as needed, and let the rice rest before serving for the best results. So, get cooking and enjoy the vibrant flavors and textures of red rice in your next meal!
