SALMON BALL

Categories     Fish     Appetizer

Number Of Ingredients 7

1# can of salmon
8 oz. cream cheese
1 T lemon juice
2 t. grated onion
1/4 t. salt
1/2 c. coarsely chapped pecans
3 T snipped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Mix salmon, cream cheese, lemon juice, onion and salt. Chill. Roll mixture into a ball and cover with chopped nuts and parsley.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Salmon: Opt for wild-caught salmon for its superior flavor and nutritional value. Ensure the salmon is fresh or properly frozen to maintain its quality.
  • Season and Chill: Season the salmon balls generously with your preferred seasonings to enhance their flavor. Chilling the mixture before forming the balls helps them hold their shape better during cooking.
  • Properly Shape the Balls: To achieve evenly cooked salmon balls, ensure they are all of uniform size and shape. Use a small ice cream scoop or your hands to form the balls, then gently roll them between your palms to create smooth surfaces.
  • Choose the Right Cooking Method: You can bake, pan-fry, or deep-fry the salmon balls based on your preference and desired texture. Baking results in moist and tender salmon balls, while pan-frying creates a crispy exterior. Deep-frying gives you golden brown and crunchy salmon balls.
  • Maintain Ideal Cooking Temperature: Whether baking or pan-frying, ensure the oil or cooking surface is adequately heated before adding the salmon balls. This helps sear the outside quickly, preventing the salmon from sticking and ensuring even cooking throughout.
  • Avoid Overcrowding: To ensure proper cooking and prevent steaming, avoid overcrowding the salmon balls in the pan or baking sheet. Cook them in batches if necessary.
  • Monitor Cooking Time: Keep a close eye on the salmon balls during cooking to prevent overcooking, which can result in dry and tough texture. Use a meat thermometer to ensure they reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) for optimal doneness.

Conclusion:

With these tips in mind, you can create delicious and flavorful salmon balls that are perfect for any occasion. Whether you prefer baked, pan-fried, or deep-fried salmon balls, this versatile dish is sure to impress your taste buds. Experiment with different seasonings and sauces to find your favorite combination and enjoy these salmon balls as a main course, appetizer, or party snack. Remember to handle the salmon carefully, cook it properly, and serve it with your favorite accompaniments for a truly satisfying culinary experience.
