Time 45m

Yield 1 serving

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 ounces milk
Vanilla Bourbon Caramel Sauce, recipe follows
11 ounces premium vanilla ice cream
Freshly whipped cream, with bourbon (optional), for serving
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 vanilla bean, scraped
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup bourbon
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Pinch of sea salt

Steps:

  • Combine the milk and 1/3 cup of the Vanilla Bourbon Caramel Sauce in a blender and blend until combined. Add the ice cream and blend until smooth.
  • Drizzle some of the remaining caramel sauce into a glass in a decorative pattern. Pour in the milkshake, top with a dollop of whipped cream, and drizzle with more caramel sauce.
  • Put the cream in a small saucepan, add the vanilla pod and seeds and bring to a simmer. Remove from the heat, cover and let steep while you make the caramel.
  • Combine the sugar and 1/4 cup cold water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat; stir to combine. Cook, without stirring, until the sugar has turned a deep amber hue, 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Remove the vanilla pod from the cream and slowly whisk the warm cream and the bourbon into the caramel. Continue simmering the mixture until smooth, another 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and whisk in the butter and salt, whisking until smooth. Transfer to a bowl and let cool for 10 minutes.

Time 20m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups honey bourbon
4 cups sugar
3 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
4 teaspoons flaky sea salt, plus extra for topping
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 quart vanilla ice cream
2 cups whole milk
1 quart whipped cream

Steps:

  • Pour 1 1/3 cups water and the bourbon into a medium saucepan and set over high heat. Carefully pour the sugar directly into the center so none of it splashes up the sides of the pan. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar starts to turn brown. Do not stir the pan. If necessary, gently swirl the pan to help melt all the sugar.
  • Once the sugar turns a deep, rich brown, remove the pan from the heat and pour in the heavy cream slowly and carefully. It will splatter a little and the caramel will seize up if the cream is added too quickly. Add the butter, salt and vanilla. Swirl the pan until the butter dissolves completely and evenly into the caramel sauce. The butter makes it shiny and rich.
  • Drizzle a little caramel sauce into each of the tall milkshake glasses.
  • Combine the ice cream, milk and the remaining caramel sauce in the blender, reserving a little caramel on the side to garnish the tops of the milkshakes at the end. Blend until smooth and pour into the glasses. Top each with a little whipped cream, a pinch of sea salt and a drizzle of the reserved caramel sauce.

SALTED CARAMEL MILKSHAKE

Time 5m

Yield 2 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

Caramel hard candy, crushed into very small pieces
1 cup vanilla almond milk
8 pitted dates
1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1 to 2 tablespoons almond butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon maple extract
2 pinches sea salt, plus additional for topping
1/2 cup ice cubes

Steps:

  • Dip the rim of two glasses in water, then into the crushed caramel candy. Set aside.
  • Puree milk and dates in a blender until well combined (until there are virtually no date bits and pieces). Add frozen pineapple chunks, almond butter, vanilla and maple extracts, salt, and ice cubes. Blend on medium speed until ice cubes are pureed and beverage is thick and frothy.
  • Divide between the 2 candy rimmed glasses and add a pinch of sea salt on each, if desired.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Look for bourbon that is at least 80 proof and caramel sauce that is made with real butter and sugar.
  • If you don't have salted caramel sauce, you can make your own by adding a pinch of salt to regular caramel sauce.
  • To make the milkshake extra thick and creamy, use frozen bananas instead of fresh bananas.
  • If you don't have a blender, you can mash the bananas and ice cream together with a fork or spoon.
  • Garnish the milkshake with whipped cream, caramel sauce, and a cherry for a special touch.

Conclusion:

The salted bourbon caramel milkshake is a delicious and decadent treat that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you are looking for a sweet and satisfying treat, give this milkshake a try.
