Steps:
- In a large bowl, combine the cabbages, green beans, red bell pepper, pickled ginger, and cilantro. Cover and refrigerate.
- In a small saucepan heat the canola oil to 325 degrees F and carefully fry the wonton strips for 3 to 4 seconds, until golden brown. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the strips to a paper towel to drain. Set aside.

- Toss the vegetables with half of the dressing and mix well. Add half of the wonton strips and gently combine. Mound the slaw onto a platter or indivisual plates. Place the sliced tuna on top of the salad and drizzle the remaining dressing on top. Garnish with the remaining wonton strips.

I discovered this dish at my mother-in-law's house during a family holiday buffet. Her being Japanese, she had many friends who brought wonderful Japanese dishes, and this was and has remained one of my favorites. It's light and fresh any time of the year.

SEARED AHI MARINADE
I wanted a recipe that was similar to the ones I have had a restaurant in the past. I searched the site and found some good sauces for seared ahi- but just not what I was looking for. I found one a lot like I was looking for at Simple Recipes- I tweeked it a bit and I'm posting it here for safe keeping because it was so yummy!! Mind you- it was fresh, wild caught ahi- which can make a difference. I'll let you know how it goes with frozen fish, should I break down and try it (but with two avid ocean fisherman in the neighborhood hood, it will be a desperate move!)

Steps:
- Mix the sesame oil, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, green onion and lime juice in a non metal bowl. Add ahi and coat , cover tightly, and refrigerate for about an hour.
- Toast the sesame seeds in a pan until light brown (I prefer a blend of white and black sesame seeds- the black ones are hard to find, try an asian market). Remove seeds and allow to cool on a flat plate (you will use this plate to dredge the tuna in)- add cracked pepper.
- Add olive oil to a skillet and allow it to get HOT.
- Dredge the ahi in the sesame seeds and pepper to coat and add to the hot pan.
- Cook only two or three minutes on each side so that the ahi is seared on the outside and rare on the inside.
- Serve with white rice and green beans that have been either roasted or cooked and drizzled with sesame oil. Sprinkle any extra sesame seeds over the top.
- garnish with remaining green onion and ENJOY!
Tips:
- For the best results, use fresh ahi tuna steaks that are at least 1 inch thick. If you can't find ahi tuna, you can substitute another type of firm, oily fish, such as salmon or swordfish.
- Make sure the ahi tuna steaks are well-seasoned before searing. This will help to develop flavor and prevent the fish from sticking to the pan.
- Sear the ahi tuna steaks over high heat for a short amount of time. This will help to create a nice crust on the outside while keeping the inside of the fish rare.
- Let the ahi tuna steaks rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help to redistribute the juices and prevent the fish from overcooking.
- Serve the ahi tuna steaks with a variety of sides, such as Asian green beans and carrots, steamed rice, or mashed potatoes.
Conclusion:
Seared ahi tuna is a delicious and healthy meal that can be prepared in just a few minutes. By following these tips, you can create a perfect seared ahi tuna steak that is sure to impress your friends and family.
