This new take on the typical yeast bread stick takes biscuit dough, shapes it into sticks, bathes the sticks in garlic butter, then bakes garlicky, pull-apart biscuit sticks. Their soft sides and crisp tops make them a favorite of both kids and adults. Try them along side soup or stew.

1/2 cup butter
2 -4 medium-large garlic cloves (peeled and minced or mashed, to taste)
2 1/4 cups self-rising flour
2/3 cup milk

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F As the oven is preheating, place the 8 tablespoons butter in a 9" x 13" pan, and put the pan in the oven to melt the butter. When the butter is melted, remove the pan, and sprinkle in the minced garlic, stirring gently to distribute.
  • Stir together the flour and milk to make a soft dough. Gather the dough into a ball, and gently fold it over three or four times.
  • Place the dough on a well-floured surface, and roll/pat it into a 10" x 8" rectangle; it'll be fairly thin.
  • Cut the dough in half crosswise, into two 8" x 5" rectangles. Cut each rectangle into 16 sticks, about 5" x 1/2" each.
  • Lay the sticks close together in the pan, turning them to coat with the butter; you'll need to snug them right up against one another.
  • Bake the sticks for 15 to 20 minutes, until they're a light golden brown. Remove them from the oven, and as soon as you can handle them, gently pull them apart and place on a plate or in a basket. Serve warm.

1 cup plus 2 tablespoons water (70° to 80°)
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons sugar
3 teaspoons garlic powder
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
3/4 teaspoon minced fresh basil or 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
3 cups bread flour
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon butter, melted

Steps:

  • In bread machine pan, place the first nine ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select dough setting (check dough after 5 minutes of mixing; add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed). , When cycle is completed, turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Divide into 20 portions. Shape each into a ball; roll each into a 9-in. rope. Place on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 40 minutes or until doubled. , Bake at 350° for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire racks to cool. Brush warm breadsticks with butter.

2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
2 tablespoons white sugar
¼ cup warm water
4 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 ¼ cups warm water
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 tablespoon salt
3 tablespoons melted butter
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon kosher salt

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast and sugar in 1/4 cup warm water in a large bowl. Let stand until the yeast softens and begins to form a creamy foam, about 15 minutes. Add flour, 1 1/4 cup warm water, 2 tablespoons softened butter, and 1 tablespoon salt; knead until dough is well mixed and soft, about 3 minutes.
  • Roll dough into a 2-foot log. Cut into 16 equal pieces, about 1 1/2 inches wide. Knead each piece and shape into a 6-inch breadstick. Arrange breadsticks on a baking sheet; let rise for about 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix the self-rising flour and greek yogurt until it comes together to form a ball.
