SESAME AND GINGER BEEF SANDWICHES

Sesame and Ginger Beef Sandwiches image

Loosely inspired by bing, a style of Chinese pastry that varies from a thin crepe to a thick flatbread, this recipe uses refrigerated pizza dough, which is cooked in a pan until golden then halved and filled with roast beef stir-fried with sesame, ginger and scallion, plus a tangy spicy slaw.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 pound refrigerated pizza dough (fresh, not frozen)
3 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for greasing
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
Kosher salt
2 cups shredded coleslaw mix
1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon chili oil
6 ounces deli-sliced roast beef
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
3 scallions, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon grated peeled ginger
1/2 cup fresh cilantro

Steps:

  • Microwave the pizza dough on 50 percent power to soften, 1 to 2 minutes, then let rest 5 minutes. Grease a large plate with vegetable oil; shape the dough into a 9-inch round and place on the plate. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sesame seeds and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  • Toss the coleslaw mix, vinegar, chili oil, and salt to taste in a bowl. In another bowl, toss the roast beef, sesame oil, scallions and ginger.
  • Heat 3 tablespoons vegetable oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the dough seed-side down and sprinkle with the remaining 1 tablespoon sesame seeds. Cover and fry, shaking the pan occasionally, until the dough is golden, about 3 minutes per side, turning with tongs. Transfer to paper towels, season with salt and cool.
  • Wipe out the skillet and place over high heat. Add the roast beef mixture and stir-fry until crisp, 1 to 2 minutes. Slice the flatbread in half horizontally. Layer the beef, coleslaw mixture and cilantro on the bottom half. Cover with the top and cut into 4 wedges.

Time 1h17m

Number Of Ingredients 11

3 pounds steak ((I used New York Strip Steak))
¾ cup Kroger lite soy sauce
¼ cup Kroger apple cider vinegar
¼ cup Kroger clover honey bear honey
¼ cup Kroger canola oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
¼ cup water
1 bundle green onions (thinly sliced)
1 large red bell pepper (sliced into bite size pieces)
1 red onion (sliced into bite size pieces)
1 teaspoon private selection sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Steps:

  • Cut the steak into bite size pieces and set aside.
  • In a bowl combine the soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, honey, canola oil, minced garlic, water and 3/4 of the sliced green onions.
  • Whisk until all the ingredients are combined, then add the steak pieces.
  • Let the steak marinate for at least an hour. We prefer to let it marinate over night.
  • If using wooden skewers, before sliding on your steak and vegetables, be sure the skewers soak in cold water for 20-30 minutes to avoid burning or breaking.
  • Slide your steak pieces, red onion and red pepper slices onto the skewers, leaving about and inch and a half on each end for rotating on the grill.
  • Place your skewers on the grill (pre-heated to about 300 degrees F) and rotate them every one to two minutes until they have reached your desired meat preference (I like my steak cooked medium and it took about 6-7 minutes to cook).
  • Remove from grill and garnish with the 1/3 of preserved green onions and the sesame seeds.
  • Serve warm!

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: For this recipe, flank steak or skirt steak are good choices. They are both relatively thin and tender, and they cook quickly on skewers.
  • Marinate the beef: Marinating the beef in a mixture of soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil helps to tenderize the meat and add flavor.
  • Use fresh vegetables: Fresh vegetables will give the skewers a more vibrant flavor and color. Choose vegetables that are in season and that you enjoy eating.
  • Cook the skewers over high heat: This will help to caramelize the marinade and give the beef a slightly charred flavor.
  • Serve the skewers with a dipping sauce: A dipping sauce can help to add extra flavor and moisture to the skewers. A simple soy sauce-based dipping sauce is a good option.

Conclusion:

Sesame ginger beef skewers are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. They are perfect for a summer cookout or a party. With a few simple tips, you can make sure that your skewers are flavorful and cooked to perfection. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give sesame ginger beef skewers a try!
