Tips

  • Use starchy potatoes: Potatoes with a high starch content like Russet potatoes or Yukon Gold are best for making fries because they crisp up nicely and have a fluffy inside.
  • Cut the potatoes evenly: Cutting the potatoes into even strips will help them cook evenly. Aim for strips that are about ¼-inch thick and 3 inches long.
  • Soak the potato strips in water: Soaking the potato strips in cold water for 30 minutes will help to remove excess starch, which will help them crisp up when fried.
  • Dry the potato strips thoroughly: Before frying the potato strips, make sure they are completely dry. Wet potato strips will not crisp up properly.
  • Use a high-quality oil: Use an oil that has a high smoke point, such as canola oil or vegetable oil. This will help to prevent the oil from burning and smoking.
  • Fry the potato strips in batches: Do not overcrowd the frying pan. Cook the potato strips in batches so that they have enough room to crisp up.
  • Season the fries immediately: As soon as the fries are done frying, season them with salt and pepper. You can also add other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or chili powder.
  • Serve the fries hot: Oven-baked fries are best served hot and fresh. They can be served with a variety of dipping sauces, such as ketchup, mayonnaise, or ranch dressing.

Conclusion

Oven-baked fries are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish or snack. By following these tips, you can make perfect oven-baked fries at home. So next time you're craving fries, skip the takeout and make them yourself in the oven. You won't be disappointed!
