Kids will have as much fun helping make this all-in-one supper as they will have eating it! The noodles cook right in the skillet and it's been a super-easy standby at Ruth Nolan's home in San Jose, California for decades.

Time 20m

1/2 tsp. dried basil (or) dried oregano leaves, crushed
2 tablesp. butter (or) margarine
1 can (10-3/4 oz.) cream of celery soup (or) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped (canned) tomatoes, drained from the can
2 cups already cooked, wide egg noodles
1 tablesp. dried parsley

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet, melt the butter or margarine.
  • 2. Add the frankfurters, onion, and the dried basil or oregano to the skillet.
  • 3. Lightly brown the franks, and cook until onions are tender.
  • 4. Add the soup, milk and tomatoes; stir until well mixed and heated through.
  • 5. Add the cooked noodles, and finish heating; stirring occasionally.
  • 6. Sprinkle the dried parsley on top just before serving.
  • 7. *Note: You can substitute hot dogs for the franks in this recipe.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality sausages. The better the sausages, the better the skillet franks will be. Look for sausages that are made with fresh, high-quality meat and spices.
  • Use a well-seasoned skillet. A well-seasoned skillet will help the franks cook evenly and prevent them from sticking. To season a skillet, heat it over medium heat and add a tablespoon of oil. Swirl the oil around to coat the pan, then remove it from the heat and let it cool.
  • Cook the franks over medium heat. Medium heat will help the franks cook through without burning them. If you cook the franks over high heat, they will brown too quickly and the inside will be raw.
  • Flip the franks frequently. Flipping the franks frequently will help them cook evenly. Use a spatula to flip the franks every few minutes.
  • Cook the franks until they are browned and cooked through. The franks are cooked through when they are no longer pink in the center. You can also insert a meat thermometer into the center of a frank. The frank is cooked through when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Conclusion:

Skillet franks are a quick and easy meal that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for a weeknight dinner or a weekend lunch. Serve skillet franks with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or coleslaw.
