Categories     Meat

Time 20m

Yield 6 , 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 lb extra lean ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 large egg
1/2 cup fine dry breadcrumb
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1 tablespoon fresh parsley (optional)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce

Steps:

  • Crumble meat into a large bowl.
  • Peel and finely chop the onion and add it to the bowl.
  • Add the egg, beat it slightly.
  • Add the bread crumbs, milk and Parmesan cheese; mix all together with your hands.
  • Tear the parsley (if using) into smaller pieces with your fingers, then add them and the remaining ingredients, except for tomato sauce, and mix again with your hands.
  • Heat a 12 inch nonstick skillet that has a lid over medium high heat.
  • Meanwhile, form the meat mixture into 6 patties no more than 1 inch thick.
  • Place in the hot skillet and cook until the meat is browned and cooked through, 4-6 minutes on each side.
  • Pour the tomato sauce evenly over the patties and cover the skillet, reducing heat to medium low.
  • Continue to cook for 1 minute to heat the tomato sauce through.
  • Remove from the heat and serve.

Tips:

  • Use a flavorful ground meat. A combination of ground beef, pork, and veal is a classic choice, but you can also use ground lamb, turkey, or chicken. For a vegetarian option, use lentils or beans.
  • Don't overmix the meatloaf mixture. Overmixing will make the meatloaf tough. Just mix the ingredients until they are evenly combined.
  • Use a variety of seasonings. Salt and pepper are essential, but you can also add other spices, herbs, and vegetables to taste. Some popular choices include garlic, onion, parsley, thyme, rosemary, sage, and paprika.
  • Shape the meatloaf into a loaf. You can use a loaf pan or a freeform shape. If you are using a loaf pan, grease it with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper.
  • Cook the meatloaf at a low temperature. This will help to prevent the meatloaf from drying out. The ideal internal temperature for meatloaf is 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing. This will help to keep the meatloaf moist and juicy.

Conclusion:

Skillet meatloaves are a quick and easy way to make a delicious and satisfying meal. With a few simple tips, you can make sure that your skillet meatloaf is perfect every time. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy dinner, give skillet meatloaf a try. You won't be disappointed.
