SLOW-COOKED, TEXAS-STYLE BEEF BRISKET

This slow-cooker recipe comes directly from the heart of a wonderful Texas cook who makes the best brisket in the world! Yay, Papa Louis! He shared it with me years ago, via my sister (his daughter-in-law). I change it from time to time by adding ingredients to make it more Mexican (serve it with tortillas), or leave it as is and serve it with fresh rolls.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef brisket: Look for a brisket that is well-marbled with fat, as this will help to keep the meat moist and flavorful during the long cooking process.
  • Trim the brisket: Remove any excess fat from the brisket before cooking. This will help to prevent the meat from becoming greasy.
  • Season the brisket generously: Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika to season the brisket. You can also add other spices, such as cumin, chili powder, or cayenne pepper, to taste.
  • Sear the brisket: Sear the brisket in a hot skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. This will help to create a flavorful crust on the outside of the meat.
  • Cook the brisket low and slow: Cook the brisket in a preheated oven at 225 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 hours, or until the meat is fall-apart tender.
  • Let the brisket rest before serving: Once the brisket is cooked, let it rest for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making it even more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Slow-cooked Texas-style beef brisket is a delicious and flavorful dish that is perfect for any occasion. By following these tips, you can easily make a brisket that is fall-apart tender and packed with flavor. Serve it with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, green beans, and cornbread, for a complete and satisfying meal.
