SLOW-COOKER BEEF BARBACOA

Slow-Cooker Beef Barbacoa image

I love this beef barbacoa because the meat is fall-apart tender and the sauce is smoky, slightly spicy and so flavorful. It's an amazing alternative to ground beef tacos or even pulled pork carnitas. It's also versatile. You can have a soft taco bar and let people make their own-or offer mouthwatering Mexican pizzas or rice bowls. -Holly Sander, Lake Mary, Florida

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast, brisket, or short ribs are ideal for barbacoa because they have a good amount of marbling, which will help keep the meat moist and flavorful.
  • Sear the beef before cooking: Searing the meat before cooking helps develop a rich, flavorful crust and locks in the juices.
  • Use a flavorful liquid: The liquid you use to cook the barbacoa should be flavorful and aromatic. Good options include beef broth, chicken broth, or a combination of both, as well as tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, or a combination of all three.
  • Add spices and seasonings: Barbacoa is typically seasoned with a variety of spices and seasonings, such as chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic, and onion. You can adjust the amount of each spice to suit your taste.
  • Cook the barbacoa on low heat: Barbacoa is typically cooked on low heat for a long period of time, which allows the meat to become tender and flavorful. The ideal cooking time will vary depending on the cut of beef you are using, but it is generally best to cook the barbacoa for at least 8 hours.
  • Shred the barbacoa: Once the barbacoa is cooked, it should be shredded with two forks. This will make it easier to serve and eat.

Conclusion:

Slow cooker beef barbacoa is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a party or a weeknight meal. By following these tips, you can ensure that your barbacoa turns out perfect every time. Serve the barbacoa with your favorite toppings, such as shredded cabbage, diced onions, cilantro, sour cream, and guacamole. Enjoy!
