Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes are the best choices for scalloped potatoes, as they hold their shape well and become creamy when cooked.
  • Slice the potatoes thinly and evenly: This will ensure that they cook evenly and create a nice, layered dish.
  • Use fresh herbs and seasonings: Thyme, rosemary, and garlic are all great additions to scalloped potatoes. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a little heat.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: Make sure to leave enough space between the potatoes so that they can cook evenly.
  • Cook the potatoes over medium heat: This will prevent them from burning and allow them to cook through gently.
  • Stir the potatoes occasionally: This will help prevent them from sticking to the pan and ensure that they cook evenly.
  • Add the cheese at the end: Stir in the cheese once the potatoes are almost cooked through. This will prevent it from becoming overcooked and rubbery.
