Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of pork: Look for a pork shoulder or pork butt, as these cuts are well-suited for slow cooking and will yield tender, flavorful pulled pork.
  • Use a flavorful rub: Combine spices, herbs, and seasonings to create a rub that will add depth of flavor to the pork. Common ingredients include chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Cook the pork low and slow: Slow cooking allows the pork to break down and become tender. Cook the pork on low heat for at least 8 hours, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 200°F (93°C).
  • Add moisture to the pork: During the cooking process, spray the pork with a mixture of apple cider vinegar, water, and brown sugar to keep it moist and prevent it from drying out.
  • Shred the pork: Once the pork is cooked, use two forks to shred it into small pieces. This will make it easier to serve and eat.
