SPAM FRITTERS

1 tin Spam, cut into 10 mm (1/2" slices)
Olive oil for frying

Steps:

  • Add all of the dry batter ingredients to a bowl, then whisking well, add just enough fluid (Guinness, bitter, or the milk/water mix) to make a thick batter. Add the egg and mix it in extremely well.
  • Rest the batter in the refrigerator for 20 minutes if you can
  • Dip each piece of spam in a saucer of plain flour and knock off any excess (this helps the batter mix to stick)
  • Dip each piece of spam in the batter
  • Heat a shallow frying pan with a little oil. When it has just started to smoke, reduce the heat a little and fry the fritters a few at a time for 3 minutes a side

Tips:

  • For both Spam Pancake Fritters and Pancake Donut Balls, the batter should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. If it's too thin, add more flour. If it's too thick, add more milk.
  • When frying the fritters or donut balls, make sure the oil is hot enough. If it's not, the fritters or donut balls will absorb too much oil and become greasy.
  • To check if the oil is hot enough, drop a small piece of batter into the oil. If it sizzles and comes right back up, the oil is ready.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when frying the fritters or donut balls. Otherwise, they won't cook evenly.
  • For the Spam Pancake Fritters, you can use any type of Spam you like. However, Spam Classic is the most popular choice.
  • For the Pancake Donut Balls, you can use any type of pancake mix you like. However, a buttermilk pancake mix will give you the best results.

Conclusion:

Spam Pancake Fritters and Pancake Donut Balls are both delicious and easy-to-make treats that are perfect for any occasion. Whether you're serving them for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, they're sure to be a hit. So next time you're looking for a fun and unique way to enjoy Spam or pancakes, give these recipes a try!
