Tips:
- Choosing the Right Potatoes: Select potatoes that are firm and free of blemishes or bruises. For baking, choose starchy potatoes like Russets or Idaho. For roasting, opt for waxy potatoes like Yukon Gold or Red Bliss.
- Perfectly Baked Potatoes: Prick the potatoes with a fork to allow steam to escape. Bake at 400°F for 45-60 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork. For crispy skin, rub the potatoes with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
- Crispy Roasted Potatoes: Toss the potatoes with olive oil, salt, pepper, and herbs. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Roast at 425°F for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Flavorful Mashed Potatoes: Start with boiling the potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, and seasonings. Mash until smooth. For extra creaminess, use heavy cream instead of milk.
- Loaded Potato Skins: Bake the potatoes until tender. Cut them in half lengthwise and scoop out the flesh, leaving a 1/4-inch border. Brush the skins with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake again until crispy. Fill with your favorite toppings like cheese, bacon, and chives.
