SPICED WALNUTS
I pick my walnuts from a local tree, clean them and crack them myself-this recipe is worthy of my hard-won walnuts! The rich, buttery taste will fool you, as there's not a drop of butter in them. Not overly sweet, the nuts get nice and crispy from the egg bath. They work well as an appetizer and are an always-welcome hostess gift. They also freeze well, so you can enjoy them any time of year. -Sherri Starkin, Lyle, Washington

Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Freshly ground spices, pure vanilla extract, and real butter will make a big difference.
- Be sure to measure your ingredients accurately. This is especially important for baking, as even a small difference in measurements can affect the outcome.
- Don't overwork the dough. Overworking the dough will make the scones tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
- If you don't have a pastry cutter, you can use two knives to cut the butter into the flour. Just be sure to work quickly so that the butter doesn't get too warm.
- Chill the dough before baking. This will help the scones hold their shape and rise properly.
- Bake the scones until they are golden brown. Overbaking will make them dry and crumbly.
- Serve the scones warm with your favorite toppings. Some popular choices include butter, jam, honey, and clotted cream.
Conclusion:
Spiced walnut scones are a delicious and easy-to-make treat. They are perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a snack. With a few simple tips, you can make perfect scones every time. So next time you're in the mood for something sweet and satisfying, give these scones a try.
