Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 large russet potatoes, cut into 1/4" wide fries, unpeeled
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup v-8 juice
1 Tbl. chili powder
1 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2-1 tsp. cayenne
1 tsp. sugar
1 Tbl. salt, or to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a large cookie sheet. Fill a large bowl with cold water, add the potatoes, and allow to soak for 10 minutes. Whisk together the oil, v-8 and rest of ingredients in large bowl. Drain the potatoes, and pat dry with paper towels. Toss the potatoes with the oil and spice mixture; stir until evenly coated. Arrange fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake fries in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Turn and continue to bake until browned and crispy, about 20 more minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes are ideal for chili fries because they are starchy and hold their shape well when fried.
  • Cut the potatoes into even-sized pieces: This will help them cook evenly.
  • Soak the potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes before frying: This will help to remove excess starch and make the fries crispier.
  • Season the fries with salt and pepper before frying: This will help to enhance their flavor.
  • Fry the potatoes in hot oil: This will help them to brown and crisp up quickly.
  • Drain the fries on paper towels: This will help to remove excess oil.
  • Top the fries with your favorite chili recipe: You can use a classic chili recipe or a more unique one, such as a white chili or a vegetarian chili.
  • Add your favorite toppings: Some popular toppings for chili fries include cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and jalapeños.

Conclusion:

Chili fries are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a party or a casual meal. With a few simple tips, you can make the perfect chili fries at home. So next time you are craving a hearty and flavorful dish, give chili fries a try!
