SPINACH BALLS

Spinach Balls image

I got this recipe from my mother-in-law, who says these were my veggie-hating husband's favorite childhood snack. They are a great way to get kids to eat spinach!! Prep time includes chill time. This can be a little salty depending on the butter, cheese and bread crumbs you use, if you are concerned about saltiness use unsalted butter and garlic powder in place of the garlic salt. I have also made these with only 1/2 cup of melted butter (1 stick) and they are just as good but you need to spray the cookie sheet because they will stick.

Tips:

  • To ensure a smooth and creamy filling, make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature before mixing. This will allow it to blend easily with the other ingredients.
  • Use fresh or frozen spinach for the best flavor and texture. If using frozen spinach, thaw it completely and squeeze out any excess moisture before adding it to the mixture.
  • For a more flavorful filling, use a combination of cheeses, such as mozzarella, cheddar, or Parmesan, in addition to the cream cheese.
  • Season the filling generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to enhance the flavor.
  • Chill the filling for at least 30 minutes before shaping it into balls. This will help the mixture firm up and make it easier to handle.
  • Use a small cookie scoop or a spoon to shape the filling into uniform balls. This will ensure they cook evenly.
  • Coat the spinach cheese balls in bread crumbs or crushed crackers before frying. This will help them stay crispy and prevent them from sticking together.
  • Fry the spinach cheese balls in hot oil until they are golden brown and crispy. This will take about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Serve the spinach cheese balls hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or tzatziki sauce.

Conclusion:

Spinach cheese balls are a delicious and versatile party appetizer that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a variety of fillings and coatings to choose from, you can create spinach cheese balls that are sure to be a hit at your next gathering.
